You can enter simple formulas in a workbook, and use functions such as SUM, COUNT and VLOOKUP (covered on the Excel Functions I online course). You now want to explore some more advanced Excel techniques


This course includes topics from the Excel Advanced Calculations course


Pre-requisites



The course assumes that delegates are familiar with: topics covered in the Excel Functions I course, including entering simple formulas using functions such as COUNT and VLOOKUP, copying formulas with AutoFill and locking cells with $ signs.


To take part in this course, delegates will need an internet-connected device with camera and microphone, and an internet connection which can stream video in reasonable quality.


 

Training objectives

At the end of the course, you will be able to use Excel functions such as IF, AND,OR and IFERROR.


You will also be able to apply data validation to a cell, and apply protection to worksheet data.

Learning outcomes

Use functions in calculations



  • Find the function you need

  • Choose from different outcomes with IF

  • Understand function nesting

  • Join tests with AND and OR

  • Use IFERROR to replace errors in formula results

  • Use a 3D formula to sum data from different worksheets


Validate data being entered



  • Set data validation on cells

  • Display an error message if data fails validation test

  • Create a drop-down list of values for users to select from

  • Write a formula to control validation


Notes and Comments



  • Understand the difference between notes and comments

  • Add a comment to a cell

  • Work with @Mentions


Protect your data



  • Protect a worksheet

  • Allow users to edit certain cells

  • Protect a workbook

  • Prevent accidental damage to a workbook


Select cells with GoTo Special



  • Select cells with formulas

  • Select cells in one column which differ from cells in another colum
