Course description

Aim - To enhance managers and aspiring managers’ skills around raising the performance of staff who report to them.


Please note that this is a two session event taking place on 1st and 4th December, 09:30 - 12:30 each day

Training objectives

This course is highly participative and involves both individual and group work.


Participants will be asked to relate theory to their own situation. 


They will have the opportunity to formulate detailed action plans to implement after the completion of the course.


Participants will be asked to reflect on and share their experiences and underpinning beliefs.


Through a mixture of theory, individual and small group reflection, practice and by gaining feedback from your colleagues, this workshop is designed to develop your management and leadership capability and confidence to lead your teams within ESCC.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to:


  • Define how you and others see the impact of good and bad management behaviours

  • Apply the above to remote management

  • Identify the core responsibilities of a manager and self-assess against current practice and current conditions

  • Use the full range of performance management intervention

  • Use the supervisory 12-4-2 framework in a way that supports performance and considerations for conducting remotely

  • Have options on how to handle tensions when promoted from within

  • Define and manage boundaries between you and your team members

  • Demonstrate how these apply to remote management

  • Promote trust and clear expectations by using responsibility, accountability and sharing your authority

  • Give structured feedback that challenges underperformance or poor behaviour and celebrates success authentically

Please note:

This session will be delivered remotely via MS Teams.

Once your place is confirmed please keep an eye open for an invitation to that meeting and ACCEPT. This will come about a week before the event. That will drop into your Outlook calendar and you will get a reminder 15 minutes before the start to JOIN TEAMS MEETING.

Delegates' email addresses as registered on the portal will be provided to the trainer for the purpose of conducting this training only.

Delegates should ensure that their work (not personal) email addresses are recorded - check and update as necessary through 'My Profile and Bookings/Change Contact Details'.

We recommend that you find somewhere quiet to take part in this session, away from phones and other distractions, and show yourself as unavailable in Skype.
