Course description

East Sussex County Council is committed to supporting their employees during periods of significant change and recognises that career transition support is a key part of that process.


 


Aims; To approach competency based interviews with confidence and to be able to write an effective supporting/personal statement.


Each day is made up of two x 1.5 hour sessions at 10:00 and 14:00, followed up by a 30 minute 1-2-1 session, so there is plenty of built in time for coffee/comfort breaks.


 

Training objectives

Hays will provide group workshops delivered by their experienced Career Coaches.


The workshops include real time recruitment information about the local employment market and gives practical advice about what it takes to get a job.


These will include:



  • CV & Making Applications

  • Competencies & Interview Skills


Each virtual workshop will last 1.5 hours and both sessions will take place on the same day with time in between to reflect and make a note of any questions.


The sessions will also be interactive, you will be provided with a participant pack prior to the sessions which includes full notes on the topics and a place to make your own notes.


Participants will also have 6 months free access to the Hays career transition e-career portal. This has 10 modules that look at CV templates – interview tips including video, social networking- do’s and don’ts as well as other relevant topics to support them in going back out into the market. 

Learning outcomes

  • to understand the real purpose of interviews

  • to refresh your knowledge of the unwritten rules of interviews

  • to understand the most commonly tested competencies and develop successful ways of demonstrating these competencies

  • to understand the value of a well written supporting/personal statement

  • to be able to evaluate a supporting/personal statement from a hiring manager’s perspective

  • to develop best practice techniques in writing your supporting/personal statement


I found this course very different than I expected, I found it very positive and uplifting, the trainer was very knowledgeable and kept everyone interested, a course worth attending as I felt I gained a lot from it.


Trainer gave a strong delivery. Content was relevant and provided a good insight. I have not yet needed to use the information

This is a remotely delivered session via Microsoft Teams.

Delegates' email addresses as recorded on the ESCC Learning Portal will be provided to the training providers for the purposes of this training only. It is therefore important that you check your Learning Portal account and ensure that your ESCC allocated email address is recorded, as opposed to a personal email address.

Successful applicants will be emailed (about) a week before the session with a participant pack.

They will also be sent an invitation to the session (again, about a week before the session).

Once your place is confirmed please look out for the invitation and ACCEPT. That will drop into your Outlook calendar and you will get an automatic reminder 15 minutes before the start.
