Course description

Please note - this is a 3 part course, all three delivered over the course of one day. Timings 10:00 to 11:45, 13:00 to 14:30, 15:00 to 16:30 - ample built in time for comfort and coffee breaks.


Is this course for you?


You are familiar with entering formulas and analysing data in Excel, and want to write code to automate Excel tasks, such as formatting a report


The course assumes that delegates are familiar with:


carrying out basic operations such as data entry and copy and paste


entering formulas in Excel, and using functions including VLOOKUP and IF


performing data analysis such as sorting and filtering

Training objectives

Part One


At the end of the course, you will understand what a macro is, and be able to record a sequence of actions using the macro recorder. You will know how to store workbooks containing macros, and be able to examine macro code.


Part Two


By the end of the course you will know how to use variables, how to display messages and ask for simple user input and how to use IF to decide which lines of code to run


Part Three


By the end of this part of the course you will be able to use different ways to refer to a cell range in code. You will be able to create code which adds formulas to worksheets, and understand R1C1 notation. Your code will be able to process differing amounts of data, you will be able to format using colours and be able to run a macro using several different techniques.
