Course description
This 2 day course will re-qualify you as a First Aider in the workplace. The course is for those who wish to renew their First Aid at Work qualification. First aiders should attend the training up to 3 months before the expiry date of their certificate or within 28 days of the expiry date.

 

FAW or EFAW certificates that expired after 16 March 2020 can remain valid until 31 October 2020 or 6 months from date of expiry, whichever is later. All requalification training for these certificates should be completed by 31 March 2021. If you do not requalify before 31st March 2021, you will need to take the full 3 day First Aid course to requalify as a First Aider.

Training objectives

The syllabus laid out by First Aid Awards for First Aid at Work covers a wide range of topics.



  • including the principles of first aid

  • legal requirements CPR (resuscitation)

  • treatment for shock

  • heart attacks

  • head injuries

  • spinal injuries

  • fractures, burns

  • soft tissue injuries

  • heat related illnesses

  • other important topics include poisoning, seizures, asthma, allergic reactions and eye injuries.


The course tutor will assess you throughout the course, through multiple choice papers and observations.


Upon completion, First Aid Awards will provide a certificate.

Additional Information

Covid – 19

To ensure the safety of our course tutors and attendees we ask that if you or a member of your household has experienced any symptoms of Covid 19 within the 14 days prior to the session that you do not attend the training course. The symptoms include a new persistent cough, fever and loss of smell and/or taste. You will be asked to confirm this prior to entering the room, please be honest and don’t put others at risk. Should you have these symptoms, cancellation fee will not be charged.

And please contact Corporate.Training@eastsussex.gov.uk as a priority should you develop symptoms or are declined attendance so that your place can be cancelled.

The course tutors will be asking learners to complete information for test and trace. You must contact Corporate.Training@eastsussex.gov.uk immediately, if following the course you develop symptoms so we can follow the government advice and contact the other course attendees.

Please bring a mask/face covering, to be worn during practical sessions and movement around the venue. We ask that you bring your own refreshments (food and drink) to be consumed during the course. During Covid – 19 we will be doing what we can to minimize the risk to our course attendees and tutor, we will not be providing refreshments. Please bring your own refreshments and do not share with others.

  • Follow Government guidance at all times.
  • Maintain social distancing at all times within the training room.
  • Adhere to the information provided by the venue
  • Please remain 2m apart from other course attendees and do not shake hands.
  • Wash your hands regularly or use hand sanitiser.
  • Do not congregate in any area unless you can maintain 2m distance.
  • Bring a face covering to be worn around the building and during practical sessions.
  • Please wash or sanitise your hands before and after using the toilet facilities.
  • Please wash or sanitise your hands before and after every theory/practical session
  • If you use any shared equipment such manikins, auto injector pens etc, please clean them before and after use.
  • Please respect the tutor, we are governed by HSE. They will not ask you to do anything that they do not need to see. Please note, rescue breaths into a manikin do need to be seen. There are clear cleaning regimes, you will each be given a face mask and we dispose of the ‘lungs’ within the manikin after each training session.

ENSURE YOU BRING ONE FORM OF IDENTIFICATION (DRIVING LICIENCE, PASSPORT OR BANK CARD) WITH YOU AND ANY RELEVANT INDUSTRY CERTIFICATES.

IF CANCELLATION IS MADE WITHIN 15 DAYS OF THE COURSE STARTING OR IF THE CUSTOMER FAILS TO ATTEND THE COURSE, THE CUSTOMER WILL BE LIABLE TO PAY THE FULL COURSE FEE. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND PLEASE ADVISE CORPORATE TRAINING AS THESE PLACES ARE IN HIGH DEMAND.

Please bring your First Aid at Work Certificate with you to show the trainer.  You will not be allowed to do the training unless you are able to show your certificate.
